Hi!

This year, One Book One New Orleans and the Young Leadership Council are generously hosting a pack-a-thon for Books 2 Prisoners.

We’ll mainly be wrapping a backlog of packages we’ve been accumulating, and hopefully catch-up with our letter queue. The pack-a-thon will be held on October 2 at YLC Headquarters, 1840 Euterpe St., NOLA 70113. from 4-7p.m.

We’ll also be tabling at the following One Book One New Orleans events:

A Night of Networking: Young Professional Happy Hour – Sept 26, Hermes Bar, Antoine’s Restaurant, 713 St. Louis St., NOLA 70130
“From The Mouthpiece On Back”: Outdoor Film Screening in the Sculpture Garden – Oct 5, Sculpture Garden, New Orleans Museum of Art, One Collins C. Diboll Circle, City Park, NOLA 70124

7/9/11 – An exciting round-table discussion at the Porch

We’ll be tabling today from 3-5 today at the Porch 7th Ward Cultural Organization’s Block Party. That’s at 1362 St. Anthony St.

Immediately preceding the block party, there will be a youth-led round-table discussion. Topics include: “New Freedom Schools” – Justice in Education, Cradle to Prison Pipeline, “New Jim Crow” – Immigrant Students’ Rights, “Resistance, Solidarity, Self-Determination” – Art as Activism.

Discussion starts at noon.

We’ve heard really good things about these moderators. Should be an exciting talk!

Local Bands Firebrand, Sparrowhawk, Crackboxx, and Fast Boyfriends will be playing tonight at Mudlark Public Theater to benefit Louisiana Books2Prisoners. $5 suggested donation at the door. We’d love to see you there. It’s gonna be a hoot!

We’re cancelling this week’s worknight (10/31). Everyone have a safe and happy Hallloween! And remember, save some energy for The New Orleans Book Fair next Saturday – see you on Frenchmen!

Tonight at 7:30 at Loyola’s Nunemaker Auditorium, the lovely folks at Resurrection after Exoneration will present a newly updated version of Voices of Innocence. Exonorees John Thompson and Norris Henderson will perform monologues about their experiences in prison.

We’re cancelling worknight yet again on Sunday. We will, however, hold a worknight on July 4 (go figure). We’ll also be at Hollygrove Market on July 3. Our apologies! Wear lots of sunscreen, everyone, and drink lots of water.

We’re getting back into the swing of things, and this week we’ll be at the Hollygrove Market on Saturday morning, throwing a show Saturday evening, and conducting our (until recently) regularly scheduled worknight on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Hope to see you at one or all of these events.

Come see your favorite local B2Pers, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Grass Widow, and Slow Danger Brass Band this Saturday, May 29th, at the Allways Lounge. $3-10 sliding scale, and all proceeds go to B2P and the touring band. Hope to see you there!
